The Indian Ocean Youth Ecological Council (IOYEC) was established in 2024 by DIS-MOI as a regional initiative aimed at mobilising young leaders across the Indian Ocean to advocate for environmental sustainability and climate action.

This project falls under the Environment Commission of DIS-MOI, focusing on ecological preservation, climate resilience, and youth-led environmental advocacy.

The IOYEC is designed for youth aged 15-30 who are passionate about climate action and sustainability.

The Indian Ocean Youth Ecological Council aims to:

  • Empower youth to take leadership roles in environmental advocacy and sustainability projects.
  • Promote ecological awareness and climate action through education and community engagement.
  • Encourage sustainable practices within communities across the Indian Ocean.
  • Strengthen regional collaboration on pressing environmental challenges such as marine pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate resilience.
  • Advocate for stronger environmental policies at national and regional levels.

THE TEAM

Headed by Mrs Mélanie VALERE-CICÉRON, The IOYEC Team is a dedicated group of people working towards advocating environmental and climate action . In addition to the core team and regional coordinators, the team also include experienced environmental educators,sustainability experts and youth leaders who provide their support during various campaigns and events organised. 

The IOYEC also comprises of  over 50 Youth Council Members from different islands in the Indian Ocean.
